Keeping lessons safe

Your child’s safety matters more than any lesson plan. This is how I work, and what you can hold me to.

Checks

I hold a DBS check and am happy to show you the certificate before lessons begin. If you would like to see it, just ask.

How lessons run

  • Lessons are online and one to one, at a time you have agreed.
  • I ask that lessons happen in a shared part of the house rather than a bedroom, with a parent or carer nearby and able to look in at any point.
  • You are always welcome to sit in on a lesson. You do not need to warn me first.

Communication

All messaging happens through the student portal or with you directly. I do not message students on personal phone numbers or social media, and I do not accept friend or follow requests from students.

If I am worried about a child

If something a student says or does makes me concerned for their safety, I will normally raise it with you first. Where I believe a child is at risk of harm I will contact the local authority children’s services or the police, and in an emergency I will call 999. I would always rather have an awkward conversation than stay quiet.

If you are worried about me

Tell me. If you would rather not, or it does not get resolved, the NSPCC helpline is 0808 800 5000 and your local authority children’s services will take a report from any adult.
